What is Pridefloat?
Pridefloat used to be known as the Show Me Pridefloat Trip. We officially changed our name in the summer of 2001. It all started in 1985 with a small group organized by Jeff Williams -our “Founding Father”. In 1992, the annual shirt tradition started and the event was officially named the Show Me Pridefloat Trip. Jeff Williams and Ron had their Holy Union on the float in 1995. Jeff Williams ran the float trip from 1985 to 1995 when he passed.
Starting in 1996, the Show Me Pridefloat Trip changed leadership. Another Jeff - Jeff Brown- took over the event with help from Monty Lemrick and Owen Gilchrist. The first website for the event was launched in 1998 on AOL. The name was changed to Pridefloat in 2001. Jeff ran Pridefloat from 1996 until 2014 when he had had enough and wanted to spend his summers doing other things with his partner - like travel. So the other Camp Daddy Greg B. and his partner Dan R. along with Camp Daddies Owen G. and his partner Ron P. and John C. took over Pridefloat starting in 2014.
OK - so what is it all about?
Pridefloat is about a bunch of gay guys and gals from all over the Mid-West (mostly Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Illinois) camping together for five days and four nights and having a good time. For the past 6 years we have had 15 different states represented! Wow! Each year we have a blast making new friends and seeing our old ones again. Pridefloat is open to gay men and women, couples, singles, and gay friendly Heterosexuals. Pridefloat is one place where gay men and women can actually get to know each other, understand and appreciate our differences, and have fun together. We feel there is not enough events that incorporate gay men and women together as equals. We have many who return each year. First timers often leave saying "I will be here every year from now on." The weekend goes by way too quickly.
You will enjoy up to five days and four nights of camping at Pridefloat -(Thursday thru Monday), a free T-Shirt, a free wristband, a FREE Beer Bust Saturday evening, and floating down the river on Sunday in your choice of a canoe, raft, or kayak for the low price of $50.00 per person!!! You'll have to look pretty hard to find a better deal than this. DO NOT - repeat - DO NOT arrive before 1:00 pm on Monday!! If you arrive before Thursday, you will be charged an additional fee based on per person per night for camping. These fees will be collected by the Campground owners upon arrival when you stop to register your vehicle at their General Store.Your $50 entry fee reserves you a Sunday float, not a Saturday one. Every person that camps with us pays the $50 flat fee. There are no discounts for late arrivals or not wanting to float with us.
We operate on a reservation system ONLY.Registration for Pridefloat will close 3 weeks prior to the event every year. That means your entry from must be POSTMARKED 3 weeks prior. Late entries will be returned to the sender and not accepted. Walk-Ins are not allowed. We no longer have to limit our event to 450 people. We have at least 15 states represented EVERY year - so sign on up 'cause there ain't nothing else like it in the lower 48 states.
Where is it?
Pridefloat takes place on a river near Lebanon, MO.
The exact location and driving directions will be given out to people AFTER WE HAVE RECEIVED THEIR PAID ENTRY FORM. This is for security and organizing reasons.
When is it?
The event is held the SECOND WEEKEND AFTER MEMORIAL DAY every year.
Everyone brings their own camping equipment and food. Tents and small pop-ups are encouraged over the large R.V.'s. Our space is limited.
A different shirt is printed each year. We started printing them in 1992, the 8th year of the float trip.
